Kyle Folden - Traditional Carving
Cowlitz tribal member Kyle Folden was awarded a Potlatch seasonal gift to support his aspirations to learn and preserve traditional wood carving techniques.
“I’m an aspiring carver and the funds allowed me to purchase some very nice carving tools from Kestrel. I’ve begun practicing. My first carving was a large spoon from green Alder with some coast Salish style relief cuts. My goal is to learn more about the traditional styles and carve a story pole for my tribes sweat lodge property. I also look forward to the day when I have the skills to be able to pass them on to fellow tribal members. Keeping our ancestors’ traditions alive.”
