King Island Inupiat


  • 2007-2008 Evergreen State College independent contract study of King Island kayak - conducting surveys, making blueprints and replicas of historic King Island Kayaks.
  • 2008-Assisted in building a Maori dugout Canoe (Waka) with Master carver Takioirongi Smith at the Evergreen longhouse.
  • 2007-Present Participant in Northwest Inupiat dancers including many public performances.
  • 2011-Present Apprentice to master carver Larry Ahvakana crafting masks. The craft is steadily becoming more contemporary though the technique is steeped in the traditional method of master-apprentice teaching.
