There have been a number of high profiles deaths in Indian Country in our region in the last week. The following link will take you to an article published in today’s Seattle Times about Tim Weaver the attorney for the Yakama Tribe who passed away this week. Mr Weaver was instrumental in the Tribe receiving fishing rights and his loss will be felt by Indian Country.

Federal Recognition of Tribes
For anyone interested you can watch the hearing that it is taking place in DC at the moment on the Federal Recognition of four Tribes, including two local Tribes the Duwamish and the Chinook. There is a representativefrom BIA testifying at the moment who appears to me to be very bureaucratic. You can watch this yourself at the following site: http://resourcescommittee.house.gov/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=273&Itemid=
In terms of the Seattle Marathon I had another generous pledge of $3 per mile from my good friends Jen and Peter Cole yesterday, this will bring in $78, which now brings the pledge total to $780. I have started retraining following my return from vacation. Prior to my vacation I had had some issues with my Achilles tendon and the rest period has meant that this has settled down. I am still having problems with sore feet and are trying some different shoes to see if this helps.
I have also been asked by the Fresh Air Fund to mention their fundraising efforts associated with the NYC Half Marathon. Last year the Fresh Air Fund raised $125,000 for their cause of helping to get children healthy vacations out of New York City during the summer vacation. This is a great cause, and Fresh Air asked me to run in support of the event unfortunately I can’t be in New York on August 16th, and I am happy though to give them a mention here.
